Hey y’all it’s Lauren here with the journal takeover.
Today was an interesting day for many reasons! Unfortunately, this year we could not work with the Makah Housing Authority because the reservation had just recently opened up in March and did not have projects for us on queue. However, our team tried to make the most of the day by going to the Makah Musuem, having an affordable housing discussion, and going on a hike at cape flattery to the most northwest point of the continental US. It was an amazing museum that showed the archeological digs found in the area and focused on the cultural traditions of the tribe. The museum was arranged in a circular pattern seasonally- to show how the Makah people spent their time each season. It started with the spring and summer, showing how they hunted whales and seals and then smoked the meat. Next it moved on to winter activities, such as their wooden box making, tool making, arts, and housing tectonics/ vernacular.
I had a very special day in particular because I had thought my wallet was very lost. Low and behold I had someone reach out to me on social media who had camped on the beach I accidentally dropped it at near Neah Bay. The friendly stranger came out in his sprinter van with his dad riding motorcycle behind him. When I looked in my wallet I didn’t remember having cash but when I looked I saw that it was a friendly gift! Attached had the note: HAVE A GREAT RIDE, LEAVE IT BETTER THEN YOU FOUND IT :)
Good motto for the rest of the trip I’d say.
Here is the friendly note:

Here is another motto for our trip:
